JAPANESE CONSUL General Yoshiaki Miwa has invited the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone Authority( Zamboecozone) to a trade meeting and possible business forum to promote the freeport area to Japanese investors. The Davao City-based Mr. Miwa visited the Zamboecozone last week to scout for trade ties, including the supply of food and halal products as Tokyo prepares for next year’s hosting of the Olympics, Zamboecozone said in a statement. Zamboecozone Chairman and Administrator Christopher Christopher Lawrence S. Arnuco said he presented opportunities, particularly in the four key investment areas of the ecozone, namely: the San Ramon Newport, West Corporate Center, the Asian Halal Centre, and the La Paz Biotech Farms. Mr. Arnuco said they also discussed “people-to-people exchange program and institutional partnerships.” Mr. Miwa is quoted as describing Zamboanga City and the ecozone as an “important growth center,” not only in Mindanao but in the country. Mr. Miwa invited Zamboecozone officials to join the Davao business delegation that is scheduled to hold a trade mission to Japan mid this year.
During the visit to Zamboanga City, Mr. Miwa, along with Minister for Economic Affairs Makoto Iyori and Second Secretary Atsushi Kobayashi, also attended the turnover ceremony for two projects funded by the Japanese government. The projects — classrooms for Tictapul Elementary School and one mobile clinic for the Zamboanga City Medical Center — were approved in 2016 as part of Japan’s Official Development Assistance through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects.
